An Evening with Richard Fothergill
The second event for Wessex Filling Station saw trust Founder Richard Fothergill and his wife Jo visiting the Village Hotel Bournemouth. People had started to arrive from 6:30 pm onward even though the doors didn't open until 7:00 pm! As the beginning of the evening drew near a good number of people turned out for a half-term week and boy were they in good voice!
One of the things I like about giving the churches the opportunity to come together in worship is that people want to worship so come with a voice to sing, a passion for praise and friendly nature towards everyone they meet! As the evening began a time of heartfelt praise and worship filled the air as people young and older lifted their voices in unity and song. As praise filled the air a prayer was voiced to many an amen, which petitioned God to move in our neighbourhood! "Yes Lord" the cry was heard as people agreed with the prayer that asked God to pour out His blessing once again on the Churches of Christchurch, Bournemouth and Poole; for Him to bless the ministry of Church leaders and preachers as they preached and prayed for people within their communities!
Before Richard spoke he was interviewed by Andy Selby and asked about his life before he knew God and how he actually came to know Jesus personally. Richard also told Andy how he met his wife Josephine at an Alpha course that he attended at Holy Trinity Brompton in London. Jo had also been helping with the Alpha course and for him it was love at first sight!
As Richard spoke of his experience of God, both in this country and also during his time of ministry abroad leading a church in South Africa, he littered his keynote speech with stories of people from all walks of life coming to know God in a truly personal and deep way. He spoke of the nature of God's Holy Spirit and how he comings to minister, to heal and empower us. He spoke tenderly of the Spirits seal upon our lives and how we have to learn to hear His voice speaking to us and respond accordingly.
At the close of his talk, Richard asked everyone to stand and simply give God permission to talk to them, to minister to them personally through His Spirit and also through other people present. After a short time of silence, which seemed ages for some, the worship group began to lead an intimate time of worship during which people responded to God and members of the prayer ministry team with Richard and Jo Fothergill prayed for those that wanted prayer.
It was a wonderful to see people touched by the hand of God, people weeping as the Holy Spirit moved in their lives and others with outstretched arms worshipping God as He gave them new gifts and languages. There were a number of specific 'words' that were given to which people responded and there was a very special presence as the Holy Spirit moved throughout the venue.
All-in-all, it was another great evening, full of encouragement and spiritual enrichment which sent many people away rejoicing.

This evening we welcome the Founder of the Filling Station Trust: Richard Fothergill, to the Wessex Filling Station.
Richard is the overall Director of the Filling Station Trust and network. His brief is to grow the number and effectiveness of all of the Filling Station meetings now appearing in Britain and abroad. A new Filling Station is opening every 2-3 weeks at the present time. Richard will make first contact with all prospective groups, liaise with local Church leaders, guide, encourage & support the establishment of meetings wherever they are being considered.
Richard became a Christian at 20 through school and went onto Newcastle Uni to study Geography. From 1983-91 he was worked in PR & Advertising at various London consultancies, specialising in defence & aerospace companies. He eventually rose through the ranks and became an accounts Director for the 4th largest PR/Ad agency in the world. In began to attend an Alpha course at Holy Trinity Brompton during 1985 where he met Josephine. They were married in 1991. During that year he was also accepted for Church of England ordination and went to Bristol to study theology.
